Police and demonstrators have clashed in Indian-administered Kashmir, amid a strike in protest against the alleged ill-treatment of political prisoners.

Shops and businesses have been shut and government offices are affected in most parts of the region.

Rights activists say Kashmiri political prisoners are tortured in Indian jails, but Indian officials deny this.

Three demonstrators and two police were injured as protesters threw rocks and police responded with tear gas, the Associated Press news agency reported.

Activists say more than 1,400 Kashmiri prisoners are held in Indian jails.

In a separate incident, police found the bodies of two of their colleagues in a forest in the district of Kupwara.

Police say the two were abducted by militants on Thursday.
