Czech govt to assess new health care fees in six months ... after hours. In a dispute with Social Democrat (CSSD) shadow health minister David Rath, Julinek said the fees were beneficial as they had lowered the number of useless visits to doctors. As people more often buy normal drugs with their own means, there is more money for more expensive drugs, Julinek said. Rath said the fees had lowered accessibility of health care and people did not go to the doctors as they could not afford it. Earlier this week, the Constitutional Court postponed its examination of the Social Democrats' proposal to cancel the fees as it first wanted to question Julinek and Prime Minister Mirek Topolanek (ODS).
Julinek said if the Constitutional Court cancelled the fees, he would have to respect the decision. However, it would be a bad signal for the patients, driving home to them that squandering was possible again, he added. Rath said that even if the proposal were turned down, he would not stop "torpedoing" the health fees. If the proposal were rejected, it would mean that the court was not apolitical, he added.
