Russia said earlier this week it would add 1,000 troops to the 2,000 peacekeepers already station in Abkhazia to discourage Georgian plans to attack. Tbilisi has denied any plans to attack Abkhazia, which has been governing itself with support from Moscow since breaking away from Georgia in the early 1990s.
