Ronnie O'Sullivan won all eight frames of a one-sided second session to take a 12-4 lead over Stephen World Championship scores ... Hendry in their World Championship semi-final.
O'Sullivan produced a snooker masterclass to move within five frames of a place in the final.
Hendry made life difficult for himself by missing numerous chances early on.
O'Sullivan was in irresistible form, making breaks of 93, 57, 87, 133, 135, 85 and 70 to inflict Hendry's first ever session whitewash at The Crucible.
The seven-time world champion had never lost a session 8-0 in nearly 20 years of travelling to Sheffield.
But O'Sullivan, who made a 147 maximum break in the second round against Mark Williams, continued his magnificent form with a breathtaking display.
The two-time world champion showed all his skills, effortlessly switching from left to right-handed as required, while keeping the cue ball under the tightest of control throughout.
Hendry, who resumed level at 4-4, did have opportunities to take three of the opening four frames, but unforced errors allowed O'Sullivan in.
And when the 32-year-old got to the table, he was almost faultless with break after break leaving Hendry to sit in his chair.
The situation will bring back uncomfortable memories for Hendry, who lost 17-4 to O'Sullivan at the same stage of the tournament in 2004.
Hendry had enjoyed the best of the opening session of the eagerly awaited match on Thursday, leading 3-0 and 4-1 before O'Sullivan hit back to level the match.
But the form that saw Hendry beat Mark Allen, Ding Junhui and Ryan Day to reach the last four, and saw some tip him to win an unprecedented eighth world title, was a distant memory.
The match will resume at 1900 BST on Friday, with Hendry having left himself a mountain to climb just to gain respectability.
